About the Course

The Girls in STEAM program combines leadership development with engaging hands-on STEAM activities over four weeks, culminating in a full-day Prototype Challenge. Designed for middle and high school students, this course empowers young women to think critically, work collaboratively, and create impactful solutions while gaining confidence in their leadership potential.

What You’ll Experience

  • Leadership Growth: Learn key principles of leadership, including adaptability, innovation, and collaboration.

  • STEAM Activities: Engage in exciting projects like building DIY hydroponic systems and creating soil enriched with sea kelp.

  • Real-World Challenges: Solve pressing issues faced by local nonprofits like Independence Gardens, making a tangible difference in communities.

  • Prototype Challenge: Present your team’s solutions to community leaders during a full-day onsite event.

Program Highlights

  • Format: 4 weekly virtual sessions (90 minutes each) + full-day onsite Prototype Challenge.

  • Cost: $100 per participant

  • Includes: Leadership coaching, hands-on STEAM projects, and the opportunity to showcase your ideas to leaders at EarthX and Rotary Experience.

 

Program Overview (Refer to sign up link for date information)

  • Week 1: Leadership Foundations & DIY Hydroponics

    • Explore the connection between structured leadership and hydroponic systems. Build your own DIY hydroponic setup.

  • Week 2: Collaborative Leadership & Soil Enrichment with Sea Kelp

    • Discover how collaboration mirrors soil enrichment. Create nutrient-rich soil using sea kelp and plant seeds.

  • Week 3: Growth & Adaptability in Leadership and STEAM

    • Compare growth in hydroponic and soil systems while learning how adaptability strengthens leadership and innovation.

  • Week 4: Innovation & Impact – Preparing for the Prototype Challenge

    • Harvest and evaluate your projects while refining solutions for real-world challenges faced by Independence Gardens.

  • Full-Day Prototype Challenge:

    • Work in teams to bring your solutions to life, presenting them to leaders at EarthX during Day 1 of the Rotary Experience. Winning teams will showcase their ideas on Day 2.
